Summer memories are the best! Sunshine, vacations, beach days, and just being outdoors. But if your skin is feeling a little off after all that fun, you’re not imagining it. Those extra hours in the sun can leave behind more than a tan. Maybe you’ve noticed more dark spots then you remember, your glow’s faded into dullness, or your skin feels dry, tight, or uneven. It happens to all of us.
The good news? Your skin can bounce back. With the right care in the treatment room and at home, you can gently restore brightness, hydration, and that healthy glow you love.
What Sun Damage Can Look Like
Sometimes the signs show up right away (hello, sunburn), and sometimes they sneak in over time. Things like:
• New or darkened spots
• Uneven tone
• Rough texture
• Dullness
• Breakouts from sunscreen buildup and sweat
• Extra dryness or a “tight” feeling
All of this is common after a summer of sun and it's treatable.
Where to Start: Support + Hydrate
The first step in repairing sun-damaged skin is recovery with hydration and barrier support. That “tight” or sensitive feeling is your skin saying it needs a break.
A go-to treatment for this is our Hydraglow Facial. It’s designed to replenish moisture, smooth out texture, and brighten dull areas, all without irritation. It’s gentle but effective, and a great way to give your skin a reset if it’s feeling sun-weary.
Next Step: Even Things Out
Once your skin feels calm again, focus on fading those leftover reminders of the sun:dark spots, discoloration, and rough patches.
At Jessica Elizabeth Skincare, we offer several options depending on your skin goals and comfort level:
• Clear + Brilliant is a great laser option for brightening and smoothing with little downtime.
• Photofacial (IPL) fades sun spots, age spots and redness.
• Chemical peels gently lift away dull layers and reveal a fresher, more even tone.
• Microneedling boosts collagen and fades texture or pigment over time.
• LED light therapy calms inflammation and supports skin healing.
Support at Home
In between visits, what you use at home makes a huge difference. Some favorite options to target discoloration that we carry are:
Even Tone Correcting Serum from Skinbetter Science: brightens and evens out the skin, targeting yellow, brown and redness in the skin.
Cyspera: a non-hydroquinone option that safely fades stubborn dark spots.
Retinol (we’ll help you choose the right type): encourages gentle exfoliation and cellular repair.
One More Thing (That’s Actually the Most Important!)
Once you start repairing your skin, the best way to protect that progress is simple: wear sunscreen every day. It’s the most important product in your routine, hands down. Yes, even in fall, cloudy weather and even indoors. (How do you think indoor plants grow?)
Your skin goes through a lot during the summer. It’s okay if it needs a little extra help right now. Whether you’re dealing with spots, dullness, dryness or all of the above there are kind, effective ways to get back on track. Start small, hydrate, protect, and if you ever feel unsure about what your skin needs next, I’m always here to help guide you. You don’t have to figure it out alone.
